In-8, publisher’s green percaline cloth binding with gilt head, 306 pp. First edition of the hunting memoirs of an English gamekeeper, set in the Siwalik range between India and Nepal, the jungle of Chota Nagpur (East India) and the bamboo forests of Malabar: nilgai, Duvaucel’s deer, sambar or axis deer, gaur, etc. With chapters on tiger hunting, elephant hunting in the Nepalese Terai and leopard hunting. Map on the endpapers. Never published in French. Good condition. - WOODYATT (N.). My Sporting Memories. Forty Years with Note-Book & Gun. London, Jenkins, 1923. 8vo, modern half-chocolate shagreen binding, spine decorated with gilt faux-ribbing, 320 pp. First edition. Hunting accounts from northern India and Nepal by Major-General Woodyatt, a former Gurkha officer, focusing chiefly on tigers, as well as leopards, rhinoceroses, bears, gaurs, ibex, markhor, thar, ghoral, deer, etc. With chapters on elephants and game birds. The first chapter discusses the greatest tiger hunters, both English and Indian. Illustrated with remarkable photographs, notably of tigers, King George V’s hunts in December 1911 and the first tiger killed by the Prince of Wales (the future Duke of Windsor) in Nepal in December 1921.
