Description
SANGNIER (H.). A small collection of books on hunting, fishing, natural history, horsemanship and weapons, from various periods. Blangermont, 1990. 2 vols. in-4, contemporary blue cloth binding, title labels on the spines, 316 & 258 pp. A single typescript of the catalogue of Hubert Sangnier’s collection of hunting books. The core of the collection comes from Porphyre Labitte, his great-grandfather (who died in 1885), author of articles published in *La Chasse illustrée*, and subsequently from his father, Henri Sangnier (1874–1952), vice-president of the Saint-Hubert Club de France. The collection comprises over 550 volumes from the 19th and 20th centuries. Each volume is described in a one-page entry. A number of historical documents have been added: postcards, a signed autograph letter from J. Robert to P. Labitte regarding an article on the hunting blind and the small hunting blind (18 August 1885, on *La Chasse illustrée* letterhead), a photograph of pigeon shooting at Issy (circa 1900), and a photograph of waterfowl hunting (circa 1950). Descriptive cards cut from booksellers’ and auction catalogues have often been pasted beneath the descriptions. A collector’s copy bearing the owner’s bookplate. Very good condition.
