Description
UZÈS (Duchess of). Hunting Stories. Paris, Éditions d’art de la Phosphatine Falières, 1907. Folio, modern binding in black half-shagreen, smooth spine, cloth covers, 38 pp. First edition of this historical and anecdotal account of the art of hunting with hounds, by the Duchess of Uzès, who was one of France’s most famous huntsmen. The book’s renown stems chiefly from the illustrations by M. Leloir: a portrait of the author as a master of the hunt and six beautiful, large chromolithographs depicting hunting scenes through the ages. The last one depicts a hunting episode at Bonnelles, with the Duchess of Uzès in the foreground. The text is set within a frame featuring hunting motifs, printed in green. A fine copy. Provenance: The hunting library of the late Don Javier López de Ceballos
