Quarto, contemporary binding in fawn-coloured grained half-shagreen, ribbed spine, cloth cover, 238 pp. First edition of one of the leading French books on big-game hunting in Central Asia from the early 20th century. This account of the author’s hunting and zoological expedition to India, from January to October 1914, provides a wealth of information on the fauna and hunting, and is illustrated with a large number of black-and-white photographs across 22 plates and two folded maps of the region. A hunter and naturalist, G. Babault was a correspondent for the Natural History Museum in Paris. From 1912 onwards, he organised expeditions to the Himalayas, Ceylon and East Africa (Kenya, Uganda) to bring back trophies and specimens (insects, birds, mammals). Rare. A fine copy.
