POLET DE FAVEAUX (T.). Suarsuksiorpok, or The Woodcock Hunter, by Sylvain. Paris, Victor Lemasle, 1907. 8vo, paperback, 188 pp. A reprint of the original 1862 edition. This great classic on woodcock hunting is illustrated with 34 humorous vignettes by Félicien Rops (1833–1898), a renowned Belgian painter and illustrator and son-in-law of the author, Polet de Faveaux, who published the work under the pseudonym Sylvain. Six of these illustrations are inserted as separate plates. Théodore Polet (1801–1866), vice-president of the Namur court, married Charlotte de Faveaux (1797–1862). They had only one daughter, Charlotte (1835–1929), who married Félicien Rops in 1857. ‘Hubert Raton’ wet stamp on the title page. Foxing, stained cover, spine split with losses.
