Description
L'AIGLE (Marquis de). Reflections of an Old Hunter on Deer Hunting. Paris, Manzi & Joyant, 1913. In-8, publisher’s binding in brown half-shagreen with corner caps, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and hunting motifs, gilt head, 216 pp.
First edition, printed on Holland paper, of one of the finest and most important works on deer hunting. The Marquis de l’Aigle was the master of one of the most prestigious and oldest hunting parties, that of Francport (Oise), which hunted in the forests of Compiègne, Laigue and Ourscamp. Illustrated with 40 plates based on the author’s drawings, including 16 in colour and 24 in monochrome, and 71 illustrations within the text. A very interesting preface by the Count of Haussonville, in which he recalls his hunting memories (his father was a hunting master).
Good condition. Small tear at the top edge. Spine sun-faded. Ex-libris D. Arrese.
Provenance: The hunting library of the late Don Javier Lopez de Ceballos
