N18 MkIII transceiver. Portable wireless N18 MKIII commando transceiver, a complete set with the receiver set with all its buttons and plugs and the transmitter set with all its buttons, plugs and dial inside its metal case. The canvas cover protecting the two covers is marked MEC ZN 2192, with a functional web buckle. On the top of the case is a brass Wireless set N18 MKIII plate, serial number 39762. On the left-hand side is the antenna mounting system, consisting of five strands. Canvas carrying case, dated MEC 1943 and 1942 ZN 2170, with two original retaining pins. With its original bakelite microphone marked Microphone end N4 ZA5313, plug and cord present. DLR N5 headset, canvas part marked JFB. With battery in original box, strap damaged, box dated 21 February 1944. This item comes from Petite Raon in the Vosges where the Loyton operation was conducted by the 2nd SAS from mid-August to early October 1944 with the objective of opening the small passes ahead of the US Patton 3rd Army. 100 SAS, SOE and Jedburgh paratroopers, 6 jeeps, 1000 GMA maquisards and 1RCV took part. The seller's grandfather, an FFI Eaux et Forets then GMA Vosges, took part in this operation, which was the second largest SAS operation in occupied France, after SAMWEST in June 1944 in Brittany. He was captured by the Germans at the end of September and deported to Dachau, where he died in April 1945. When his grandmother died, the vendor recovered objects hidden or abandoned in the family farm and neighbouring houses, all linked to the maquis in the valley. It was only much later that he learned the details of Operation LOYTON. N18 MkIII transceiver.
