Description
P41 mimeograph duplicator. A rotary alcohol mimeograph duplicator, this machine was used by many Resistance networks to print leaflets. Simple to use and easy to conceal, this machine nevertheless had to be declared to German units. It is in good condition with its original crank handle and has the serial number 201640, in its original box with removable lid. This piece comes from the Moussey area in the Vosges where the Loyton operation took place, led by the 2nd SAS from mid-August to early October 1944 with the aim of opening the small passes ahead of the US Patton 3rd Army. 100 SAS, SOE and Jedburgh paratroopers, 6 jeeps, 1000 GMA maquisards and 1RCV took part. The seller's grandfather, an FFI Eaux et Forets then GMA Vosges, took part in this operation, which was the second largest SAS operation in occupied France, after SAMWEST in June 1944 in Brittany. He was captured by the Germans at the end of September and deported to Dachau, where he died in April 1945. When his grandmother died, the vendor recovered items hidden or abandoned on the family farm and in neighbouring houses, all linked to the maquis in the valley. It was only much later that he learned the details of Operation LOYTON.
