Smith & Bros typewriter. Smith & Bros typewriter with French keys, used by the Moussey maquis. The machine is complete in its original box and in very good condition. This piece comes from Petite Raon in the Vosges where the Loyton operation was conducted by the 2nd SAS from mid-August to early October 1944 with the objective of opening the small passes ahead of the US Patton 3rd Army. 100 SAS, SOE and Jedburgh paratroopers, 6 jeeps, 1000 GMA maquisards and 1RCV took part. The seller's grandfather, an FFI Eaux et Forets then GMA Vosges, took part in this operation, which was the second largest SAS operation in occupied France, after SAMWEST in June 1944 in Brittany. He was captured by the Germans at the end of September and deported to Dachau, where he died in April 1945. When his grandmother died, the vendor recovered items hidden or abandoned on the family farm and in neighbouring houses, all linked to the maquis in the valley.
