Description
Indochinese tirailleur Chassepot bayonet. Chassepot model 1866 bayonet, blade well marked on the back Saint Etienne juillet 1871, the guard bears the number 98984 as well as various hallmarks on the brass handle. The scabbard has the number 86393, enhanced with an Indochinese motto over its entire length in gold paint. According to the seller's information, this piece came from the estate of Governor George Catroux, and is believed to have been a parting gift. Chassepot bayonet Indochinese rifleman. Chassepot model 1866 bayonet blade spine marked Saint Etienne July 1871. Guard numbered 98984 with various proof marks on brass hilt. Scabbard numbered 86393 enhanced with an Indochinese motto painted in gold along its length.
