Description
Helmet model 1945, known as Jeanne d'Arc. Belonged to Major General Paul Girot de Langlade. During the First World War, he distinguished himself as a volunteer with the 3rd RCC and then the 69th BCP. Seriously wounded in the right arm during the Battle of the Marne, he nevertheless managed to join the air force in 1916 and became a pilot. In 1923 he left the air force and returned to the cavalry, before taking part in the Moroccan campaign in 1928. In 1940 he was stationed in Tunisia, then after the Armistice, he arrived in Senegal in 1941. In 1943 he joined the 2nd DB and took part in all the campaigns of this prestigious unit until the end of the war. After the war, he became military governor of Strasbourg, then commander of the Saumur Cavalry School. From 1952 to 1954 he was transferred to Indochina and took command of the Cambodian land forces, which he personally led into battle on the border with South Vietnam. His close relationship with the King of Cambodia, Norodom Sihanouk, who was a pupil at Saumur when he was head of the school, played a major role in the success of his mission. General de Langlade left active service in 1954 after a few weeks as deputy to General Navarre, commander-in-chief of the Indochina forces. The helmet is more than 95% in its original khaki paintwork, with 3 silver stars riveted to the front. The leather headband is in very good condition. Original headpiece and chinstrap.
