Description
USM3 Hanoi dagger. A rare USM3 type dagger made locally in Indochina, this distinctive dagger was made by a private firm in Hanoi during the Indochina War. It is described in Christian Mery's book on page 107, couteaux et poignards baïonnettes dans l'armée française de 1940 à nos jours. The handle is made up of two wooden plates fixed with screws, and the American-style wrought-iron blade is the same length as it was originally, with no visible markings and a slight gap in the hilt. The veteran soldier of the Liberation campaign engraved on one of the handles the Lorraine cross surmounting the V of victory as well as his initials twice JO. USM3 Hanoi dagger. Rare locally made Indochinese version of the USM3 dagger produced by a private Hanoi workshop during the Indochina War. Described in Christian Mery's Couteaux et Poignards Baïonnettes dans l'Armée Française de 1940 à nos jours page 107. Wooden slab grips held by screws forged steel blade of American form full length unmarked slight play at guard. Veteran of the Liberation campaign engraved on the grip the Cross of Lorraine surmounted by the V of Victory and his initials JO twice.
