Senior officer’s sword. Chiselled and silver-plated metal mountings with mother-of-pearl inlay. Crossguard in the shape of a crook, with a ball-shaped joint and a lion’s head pommel. Guard depicting a scene of a man setting off on a campaign, bidding farewell to his wife and daughter. Wooden panels overlaid with plain mother-of-pearl inlays. Straight blade with a triangular cross-section, blued, chiselled and gilded to one-third of its length, made in Solingen. Leather scabbard with two silver fittings. France, First Empire period.
