A collection of approximately 25 manuscripts on parchment and paper. Various formats. Signs of age.
A SIGNIFICANT COLLECTION OF MANUSCRIPTS, MOST OF WHICH RELATE TO THE BEAUHARNAIS FAMILY, formerly spelled Beauharnois or Biauharnois.
Notable items in this fine collection include:
-[JOAN OF ARC]. A manuscript entitled ‘Extract from the minutes of the trial of the Maid of Orléans, held in the library of St Victor in Paris, shelfmark 926’. This is followed by Latin extracts from the testimony of Jean Biauharnois: “Page 488 or 427. Joannis Biauharnois […]”.
-A receipt on parchment dated 23 December 1426 for Guillaume [?] Beauharnois, for the sum of 240 livres tournois, received from Jacques Bouches, Treasurer-General of the Finances of His Grace the Duke of Orléans.
-A lease of La Chaussée by Guillaume Beauharnois, Lord of Miramion, dated 10 November 1456. On parchment.
- a deed dated 7 July 1470 setting out a settlement between Jacques de Beauharnais, ‘son and heir of the late nobleman Guillaume Beauharnois’, Lord of Miramion, and Pierre Denisot concerning the purchase of annuities.
-1474; certification of the will of Guillaume Beauharnois.
-A detailed marriage contract between Guillaume Beauharnois, son of François Beauharnois, and Marie Rousseau. 25 July 1599.
-[LOUIS XIII]. Letter of appointment on parchment, dated 18 January 1620. Signed by Louis XIII (in his own hand), in which he appoints Guillaume de Beauharnais, Lord of Outreville, as Councillor to the King in his Councils of State and Privy Councillor: ‘[…] whilst the King was in Paris, taking into consideration the good and commendable services which the Lord of Outreville, Guillaume de Beauharnois, President and Treasurer-General of France for the Office of Finance at Orléans, has rendered to him on every occasion that has arisen, in which he has acquired great competence and knowledge of the affairs of this State, His Majesty, wishing to honour him with a position befitting his merit, has appointed, ordained and established him as his Councillor in his Council of State and Privy Council. It is His Majesty’s will and intention that he shall henceforth have access, attend sessions and have a deliberative vote, and shall enjoy the honours, authorities, privileges, appointments and rights attached to the said office, just as the other councillors in his council do, and that to this end he take the oath required and customary for this purpose before Monsieur de Sillery, Chancellor of France, or Monsieur du Vair, Keeper of the Seals. In witness whereof His Majesty has commanded me to issue to him this present patent, which he has chosen to sign with his own hand […]’.

-Deed of the marriage contract drawn up between “Jean de Beauharnais, the second of that name, and Marie Mallet”, daughter of Sieur de Villeroy, on 12 April 1636. Jean de Beauharnais (1606–1661) was the King’s ordinary maître d’hôtel. He was the great-grandfather of François VI de Beauharnais, whose son, Alexandre de Beauharnais, married Marie Josèphe Rose Tascher de La Pagerie—known as Joséphine de Beauharnais, the future Empress of the French—in 1779.
-[LOUIS XIV]. Handwritten document on parchment from the King’s Master of the Household, bearing the handwritten signature of a secretary, concerning Jean de Beauharnais, Lord of La Boische. Compiègne, 4 September 1652. Countersigned by Guénégaud.
