3 volumes in-8, first edition of one of the most important works in the history of French botany, illustrated with a frontispiece title page engraved by Vermeulen, repeated in each volume, and 451 botanical plates engraved in intaglio after Claude Aubriet.
Later full veal calf binding, covers with a gilt frieze border, plain gilt spine, title labels and volume number labels in green morocco.
(some scuffing and wormholes on the bindings, rare discolouration, restoration in the margin of folio Mm, plates 1 and 241 restored in the upper margin with an old handwritten inscription removed, plates 441 to 445 bound out of order, occasional foxing and soiling)
