Description
François de TROY (1645-1730), entourage of Presumed portrait of the Duchess of Fontange Oil on canvas. H_45,8 cm W_36,3 cm Formerly oval set to rectangle, restorations. Our work is to be compared with the painting probably representing the Duchess of Fontange around 1680, kept at the Château Aulteribe. Marie Angélique de Scorrailles is famous for having taken the King's heart on her arrival at court in 1679. This short but intense subtraction, to the detriment of Mme de Montespan, precipitated her downfall. Titled Duchess of Fontanges by Louis XIV, she died prematurely after a complicated childbirth, dying aged just 19 in 1681. 1200/1500€
