Our porcelain plaque is a reproduction of the portrait of Pierre Mignard (1612-1695) by Nicolas de Largillière (1656-1746), and executed by Mme A. B. Pellerin.
It is possible that this plate came from the Manufacture de Sèvres, was not marketed and was sold directly to the artist.
Mrs Pellerin seems to belong to the circle of women artists who worked for the Manufacture de Sèvres or other Parisian manufactures, following in the footsteps of Marie-Victoire Jaquotot (1772-1855), a major figure in porcelain painting at the beginning of the 19th century.
At the Salon of 1834, Pellerin presented several miniatures on porcelain, executed after masters such as Philippe de Champaigne, Jaquotot, and others. These works bear witness to the practice of transposing older painted compositions onto porcelain, an approach typical of Sèvres production at the time.
