18th century FRENCH school, follower of François de TROY (1645-1730) Pair of portraits of Renée Bouthillier de Chavigny (1643-1711) in red dress, posing with her dog and Anne-Marie de Beuzelin, duchesse de La Force (1668-1752) in ducal coat. Canvases 130 x 98 cm and 129 x 98.5 cm 137 x 125 cm 157,5 x 123 cm with frame Old restorations Elegant period frame in carved and gilded wood decorated with foliage, acanthus leaves and flowers. Renée Bouthillier de Chavigny, daughter of Léon Bouthillier, belonged to one of the most influential families of the noblesse de robe during the reign of Louis XIII. Through her marriage to Jacques Nompar de Caumont, she joined the prestigious Ducal House of La Force, a great aristocratic line linked to the French nobility of the 17th century. A few decades later, Anne-Marie de Beuzelin, heiress to the château and land of Bosmelet in Normandy, also joined this illustrious dynasty through her marriage to Armand Nompar de Caumont. Born into an old noble family from the Cauchoise region, she embodied the aristocracy of the court at the transition from the Grand Siècle to the Regency. Provenance : -Former collection of Château de Bosmelet in Seine-Maritime (annotated in black ink on the reverse of the canvas and stretcher "P.P Château Bosmelet").
