ITALY - RARE AND ELEGANT PALACE GONDOLA ARMCHAIR In moulded, carved, gilded and lacquered wood, decorated with the coat of arms of the ducal alliances belonging to Francesco Foscari (1373-1457), bouquets of flowers in foliage scrolls. Magnificent carved decoration of foliage scrolls surmounted by birds and flower buds. The armrests end in carved acanthus leaves. The leafy scroll base. Italy, 18th century. Height: 93 cm W : 82 cm D : 44 cm Upholstered in light brown fabric Damage and missing parts Francesco Foscari was the 65th doge of the Republic of Venice. He reigned from 1423 to 1457, making him the longest-reigning doge in the history of Venice. His government was marked by the expansion of Venetian power and numerous conflicts with the Duchy of Milan.
