Bibliography: - SP F5 page 55 - PR F3 pages 65, 66 with the indication: Eldest son of Louis-Philippe and heir to the throne, an aesthete and liberal prince, the Duc d'Orléans died at the age of thirty-three, on 13 July 1842. He played an important role in Barye's career: by commissioning a table centrepiece, he enabled the budding artist to establish himself as the Romantic sculptor of his generation. This equestrian statue is a posthumous tribute from the sculptor to his patron.
