Camille FAURÉ (1874-1956) Charles IX, King of France (1550-1574) Polychrome enamel plate Signed lower left 19 x 14 cm 31.5 x 26.5 cm with frame Label on the back "Emaux d'art du Maître Emailleur C. Fauré Limoges" and annotated "le Dauphin Charles IX d'après François Clouët - musée de Vienne". Second label on the back from the Société pour l'expansion des industries d'art du Limousin Charles IX, son of Henri II and Catherine de Médicis, came to the throne at a very young age, under his mother's regency. His reign was dominated by the Wars of Religion between Catholics and Protestants, and was above all marked by the St Bartholomew's Day massacre in 1572, which permanently tarnished his image.
