Description
MBUTI/BAMBUTI, Ituri Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. Beaten bark bark, pigments. Two pieces of tapa cloth made by the Mbuti Pygmy hunter-gatherers. It is the men who prepare the tapa using the soft, resistant bark of a species of Ficus, and then the tapa is soaked in mud and decorated by the women. Dimensions: 62x37 cm and 81x35 cm.
