Cabinet, veneered, from Flanders or Italy, late 18th century, inlaid on the front and sides with tortoiseshell, blackened wood and light-coloured wood mouldings; the upper section is bordered by a frieze of openwork foliage patterns punctuated by fire pots. The front features eight drawers in four rows framing an architecturally designed door flanked by columns. The interior reveals four small drawers framing a small curved theatre with a mirrored back, columns and a chequered floor Gilded bronze ornamentation, with a central medallion depicting Heracles subduing the Nemean lion. It rests on four ball-and-claw feet. Drooping handles on the sides. Approx. 104 x 136 x 44 cm (Previous restorations, re-veneered areas, visible wear and losses to the tortoiseshell and small bronze elements, and parts requiring reattachment) On a later blackened and gilded wooden base, supported by eight turned wooden columns connected by a crossbar H. 84 x 146 x 48 cm Provenance: - Perrin, Royère, Lajeunesse auction, Versailles, 25 May 1986, lot 149 - Private collection, Besançon, ever since Lot sold with its CITES certificate (Appendix I A) no.
