A set of four Louis XVI period armchairs, in gilded carved wood, with a medallion-shaped backrest, decorated with friezes of twisted ribbons, and flared, recessed console-style armrests with cuffs. Tapered, fluted legs with scalloped edges. Pink silk upholstery with a floral pattern H. 90.5 x W. 65 x D. approx. 50 cm (Minor signs of wear visible on the seat and upholstery) Stamped ‘NADAL l’AINE’ for Nadal Jean-René (the elder), who became a master craftsman on 22 September 1756. A famous family of chair makers, first Nadal and then Nadal l’Ainé, who worked for the Crown and the Count of Artois, to whom he supplied works of the highest quality.
