Description
A large Louis XVI-style portico clock, in turquoise and white marble. The circular enamel dial, featuring numerals for the hours and days of the month, is crowned by a statuette of the god Mars. It is supported by two obelisks adorned with trophies, with hanging chains held in place by lion’s paws and topped with balls. It rests on an entablature highlighted by a frieze and set upon six small spindle-shaped feet, with a turquin blue marble plinth highlighted by a beaded frieze (possibly added later?). Balance wheel with a radiating sun motif — strikes the hours and minutes in 5-minute intervals; alarm hand; strikes the hours, half-hours and quarter-hours. Movement requires servicing.
