Description
BALZAC (Honoré de) Paris, Alexandre Houssiaux, 1855. Complete Works. 20 vols. in-8, blue half-morocco with corner caps, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, gilt headbands (modern binding). Famous illustrated collected edition featuring 126 wood-engraved plates as inserts. The first volume is slightly smaller than the others and is bound in shagreen rather than morocco (the binding may date slightly later than the others); the edges and caps are slightly rubbed, with a few blunt corners. Some foxing; the first folio of the first volume is stained. Provenance: – Château des Fontaines Library (bookplate). – Hubert Thierry (bookplate H. T.) – AB (wet stamp with initials).
