Description
[BIBLE] Paris, Defer de Maisonneuve, printed by Monsieur, then Gay, Ponce, Belin, 1789–Year XII [1804]. The Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments. 12 vols. in-4 (29.5 x 21.1 cm), porphyry-coloured veal leather, covers framed by a frieze of gilt motifs, plain spine decorated with gilt motifs, green title and volume number labels, gilt edges (contemporary binding). A very fine edition, featuring a large folded map and 300 copper-engraved plates based on works by Marillier and Monsiau, including one folded map. Bindings very slightly rubbed (particularly the joints and caps), a few corners worn. A few foxing spots, a tear at a fold in the map. Provenance: – MH monogram stamp. – Hubert Thierry (bookplate).
