CHATEAUBRIAND (François-René de) Paris, Furne, Charles Gosselin, 1837–1850. Complete Works. 38 vols. in-8, blue half-shagreen, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs (contemporary binding). A fine edition, featuring a frontispiece portrait of the author engraved on steel by Hopwood, as well as numerous plates, engravings by Blanchard after Tony Johannot. The Complete Works comprise volumes 1 to 23, followed by *The Congress of Verona. The Spanish War. Negotiations: Spanish Colonies* (Paris, Delloye, 1838), in its first edition. Volume 26 contains *La Vie de Rancé* (Paris, H.-L. Delloye, Garnier frères bookshop, 1844) and volumes 27 to 38 contain *Memoirs from Beyond the Grave* (Paris, Eugène and Victor Penaud frères, 1850), in first edition. A fine set in uniform bindings. The bindings are very slightly scuffed. Some volumes have foxing.
