The British prose writers. 25 vols. in-16, fawn Russian leather, gilt decorative borders on the covers, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, green title labels and ochre volume numbers, marbled edges (contemporary binding). Complete set of this edition, illustrated with 50 portraits and plates engraved on steel. Fine provenance: the library of Nathaniel de Rothschild, a gift from his uncle James. The bindings are torn in places with some missing material; the joints are split. Provenance: Nathaniel Rothschild (bookplate inscribed ‘the gift of his uncle James de Rothschild, 1822’).
