Works. 8 vols. in-4 (24.7 x 15.8 cm), red morocco, with straight and curved gilt fillet borders on the covers, gilt coat of arms in the centre, ribbed spine decorated with gilt motifs, gilt edges on marbled paper (C. Hardy). A fine illustrated edition containing 130 separate copper-engraved plates, some printed on applied Chinese paper. From the ‘Collection des classiques françois’, printed by Jules Didot the Elder. A fine copy bearing the Rothschild coat of arms. One spine partially split, one corner blunt. A few foxing spots and printing smudges on the plates. Provenance: – Rothschild family (coat of arms on the covers). – Baron James de Rothschild (bookplate).
