In-8 (21.8 x 16.5 cm) black morocco, with a design of bull silhouettes in gold fillets on the covers, extending across the smooth spine; morocco linings of the same colour with a poem in Provençal in gold lettering, gilt headband, covers and spine preserved, slipcase (contemporary binding). First edition. Limited edition of 343 copies reprinted in tellière in-4 format (including 1,150 copies on alfa paper); one of 60 on Japanese paper (no. 2). Copy with an autograph dedication signed by Montherlant to ‘Madame H. Thierry, this book in which there are few dogs, but many bulls, with respectful homage’. A fine copy in a charming anonymous binding. A small scratch at the bottom of the spine; the slipcase is slightly scuffed.
