Description
VOLTAIRE [Kehl], Printed by the Société littéraire-typographique, 1785–1789. Complete Works. 70 vols. in-4, red morocco, gilt decorative borders on the covers with fleurons at the corners, plain spine decorated with gilt motifs, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Famous edition, known as the ‘Kehl’ edition, published under the direction of Condorcet and Decroix and printed by Beaumarchais, who had set up a printing press specifically for this purpose at Kehl Fort. Our copy contains 104 copper-engraved plates (including numerous portraits) out of the 125 expected. One of the rare deluxe copies, printed on large-format vellum paper (without a watermark). Bindings slightly rubbed. Very few foxing spots.
