Description
COVERED GLASS BOWL MADE OF VENETIAN BLOWN GLASS, SET IN VERMEIL Set by Erhard Lösel, Nuremberg, c. 1580 The chiselled stem features six godrons alternating with cartouches; the base of the stem is decorated with a frieze of laurel leaves; the knob is adorned with four goat’s heads alternating with ovals. The rim of the lid is decorated with a frieze of stylised leaves and berries. The handle features a putto holding a spear shaft and a pomegranate on a repoussé terrace of fruit trophies and foliage. The handle is set beneath a coat of arms, dated 1582. The glass cup is decorated with vertical stripes alternating with bands of trelliswork and adorned with three berry-shaped appliqués.
