SILVER-PLATED BOWL WITH LID Paris, 1757–1758 The handles are decorated with foliage and reed motifs, the lid’s rim decorated with a frieze of ovals, the cabbage-head handle resting on a leaf-decorated base with an amati rim, the body and lid engraved with a combined coat of arms surmounted by a marquis’s crown L: 29.5 cm (11 ½ in.) Weight: 900 g A silver-covered ecuelle, Paris, 1757–1758 Bearing the combined arms of the Moulle and le Vaillant de Lignerolles families. The le Vaillant family comprises numerous branches, including the lords of La Ferrière-Harenc, Lignerolles, Le Val, Vaux-Martin, Roucamp, Monthardon, Banneville, Les Landes, Barbeville, de La Ferrière, de Vaumartin, du Parc and de Roucamp, etc. This Norman family has been known since Richard le Vaillant, squire and lord of Lignerolles and La Ferrière-Harenc in the early 14th century. The alliance depicted on this piece of silverwork has not been identified more precisely.
