Description
VILI Reliquary fetish 20th century. Height: 43 cm. Anthropoid (monkey) skull, resin, finely woven basketwork. The lower part of this fetish features a monkey’s skull set with a resin face. Two braided wicker cords secure it to the rear and top structure, which is constructed from wicker strips. In the upper rear section, a hole sealed with resin contains the supposedly magical filling. It has two side handles which may symbolise two ears. Provenance: Pierre Redouin Collection.
