KIDUMU
Kidumu mask of an initiation master.
20th century.
Height: 32 cm.
An IR spectroscopy dating certificate (G. Matthaes patent) from the Museo d’Arte e Scienza, Milan, no. 6AF-3736, indicates the date as 1952 ± 8 years.
Light wood, with a patina combining patches of white kaolin, red padouk and black.
On the back of the mask, there is a mouth rim carved in relief into the wood. Traces of carving with an adze are visible.
