TSOGO Tsogho statue, Géongha. 20th century. Height: 62 cm. An IR spectroscopy dating certificate (G. Matthaes patent) from the Museo d’Arte e Scienza, Milan, no. 6AF-3638, indicates the date 1935 ± 8 years. Hardwood with a dark brown patina. A dark brown patina has been applied over the original white patina (which evokes the invisible world and is visible in several places, notably inside the mouth), presumably to desacralise the statuette: the dark colour brings it back to the material world. Provenance: Pierre Redouin Collection.
