Description
FANG Fetish 20th century. Height: 52 cm. An IR spectroscopy dating certificate (G. Matthaes patent) from the Museo d’Arte e Scienza, Milan, no. 3AD-2792, indicates the date 1943 ± 8 years. The heart-shaped face, covered in white kaolin, is reminiscent of Kwélè sculpture. However, the overall appearance is reminiscent of the bulu monkey found in southern Cameroon. It holds a fruit in each hand, a favourite food of the gorillas in the region. Provenance: Pierre Redouin Collection.
