BAMOUN Antique Bamoun bronze sculpture. Presumed to date from the late 19th or early 20th century. Height: 48 cm. Lost-wax bronze sculpture. A heavy, traditional chieftain’s sculpture depicting a bearded man with a dog clinging to his head, holding a jar in his hands. The plinth consists of a circle of six bronze figures. In fact, two scenes are replicated on the front and back of the sculpture. In each scene, a central figure smokes a long pipe held by the figure to his right, whilst the figure to his left pours wine into a glass held in his left hand. Provenance: Pierre Redouin Collection. Description: Everything about this sculpture evokes the abundance, happiness and wealth of a Bamoun chiefdom.
