Description
CHAMBA Chamba statue (Issou) 20th century. Height: 78 cm. Heavy wood, with a dark patina featuring traces of red pigment on the head and in numerous places on the body. The statuette depicts four figures, with a female face and a male face on either side (twins? a representation of human duality?), whose bodies and heads are joined together and rest on four feet. A handle allows the whole piece to be carried. The mouths of the female faces are wide open. The male arms are crossed at the waist, whilst the female arms hang down alongside the body.
