Description
CHAMBA
Chamba statue.
20th century.
Height: 60 cm.
Heavy wood, dark patina with traces of red pigment around the mouth and on the scarifications on the abdomen.
This statuette, whose head is covered by a crested headdress, features a wide mouth opened to the extreme, lending the figure a sense of dynamism whilst the overall posture of the body remains rather static. Traces of hair, stuck to the neck, are visible. The arms hang down alongside the body in a zigzag pattern. Two lines of ventral scarification run from the upper chest to the lower abdomen. The figure is androgynous.
