Note :
Erró, whose real name is Guðmundur Guðmundsson, is an Icelandic artist born in Ólafsvík in 1932. A major figure in the Figuration Narrative movement, he made his mark in the 1960s with a colourful, abundant style combining painting, collage and the appropriation of images from popular culture. Erró draws his inspiration from the media, advertising, comic strips, political propaganda and the icons of consumer society, juxtaposing them to create dense, ironic compositions. His work is deeply marked by a critique of power, capitalism and war, while celebrating the visual profusion of modernity. The artist often adopts an aesthetic close to pop art, but distinguishes himself from it by a more narrative and political dimension. His world, both playful and subversive, functions as a mirror of contemporary society, saturated with images and contradictions. Living in France since the 1950s, Erró has produced a considerable body of work, which can now be seen in many international museums, including the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and the Erró Museum in Reykjavik, which is entirely dedicated to him.
