Note :
Louis Hottot (1829-1905) was a French sculptor specialising in orientalism. Born in Paris and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine, he produced numerous works in bronze, regule or marble, depicting exotic scenes and characters inspired by Egypt and the Maghreb, often female figures or musicians. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1885 and 1898, and was also involved in the defence of artistic property as a publisher. His style, characterised by a taste for decoration and a meticulous finish, reflected the romantic attraction of the time to other places, although his reputation remained more discreet than that of some of his contemporaries.
