Letters patent, patent of ennoblement of Jules Pierre César GUDIN (born 1808) as Baron of the Empire. On vellum, with coat of arms painted au naturel (wear). Done on 25 February 1813. Signatures of the Emperor Napoleon Ier and Cambaceres. With its seal of red wax and its ribbons. 42,5 cm X 56,5 cm. Stamp: 12,3 cm. A.B.E. Historical background : Jules Pierre César GUDIN (1808-1847 ) was the youngest son of General Charles Etienne GUDIN, a famous divisional officer under Marshal DAVOUT who was killed at Valoutina Gora in August 1812. He was an officer under King Louis Philippe. On his death, the general's children received an endowment of 4,000 francs with the title of baron. The arms of Baron GUDIN are: Argent a rooster proper on a crescent azure, points towards the chief, below the crescent the chief, below the crescent, dexter azure issuant from the sinister, in chief three Gules in fess; free quarter of the military barons.
