Description
British officer's sabre. Leather-covered handle (splinter at top) with double gilt leather filigree. Chased and gilt brass mounting. Long-tailed lion's head cap. Single-branch hilt with the numeral "GR" under a crown and a horn. Openwork top decorated with foliage. Flat-backed curved blade, engraved, gilt and blued (minor wear), decorated with foliage, trophies, large British arms, royal numeral "GR", signed on the heel "GIBSONS THOMSON & CRAIGS WARRANTED". Black leather scabbard with three line-decorated brass fittings. Hanging by clevis button and two rings. Length: 96 cm. A.B.E. (slightly shrunken scabbard) First Empire period.
