Description
British officer's sabre. Handle covered in stingray (stained) with double gilt leather filigree. Chased and gilt brass mounting. Long-tailed lion's head cap. Hilt with one openwork branch bearing the numeral "GR" under a crown. Openwork top decorated with foliage. Flat-backed curved blade, re-sharpened (snags), engraved, gilt and blued (wear) decorated with thistle medallions, the motto "Nemo me impune lacessit" (motto of the Order of the Thistle), foliage, two cartouches "NE ME TIREZ SANS RAISON - NE ME RETOURNEZ SANS GLOIRE" and "AUGUSTUS FREDERICK ROYAL FUSILIER SEPT 28th 1811". Black leather scabbard with three gilded brass fittings, line-decorated and openwork. Hanging by button of chape and two rings. Length: 95 cm. A.B.E. First Empire.
