Description
MURAT (Joachim). "A SCHOOL FOR THE INSTRUCTION OF STUDENTS OF THE PONTS-ET-CAUSEUSES AND THE ENGINEERS...". Letter signed "Joachim Napoleon" as King of Naples, addressed to General Jacques-David-Martin Campredon, Chief of Engineers in his army. Villa Belvedere in Naples, 25 February 1809. 3/4 p. in-4. General Campredon deplored the difficulty of finding competent officers in the field of engineering, most of whom were needed for Napoleon I's troops. He therefore logically asked for local men to be trained to make up for this shortage. " ... You should already have received my decree on the appointment of employees to the Ponts-et-Chaussées; I order that the project concerning ditches along the roads be withdrawn from the Interior section; it will be signed at the Council of Ministers on Monday. I APPROVE YOUR INTENTION TO ESTABLISH A SCHOOL FOR THE INSTRUCTION OF PONTS-ET-CHAUSSEES AND GENIE STUDENTS; draw up a project accordingly and submit it to me as soon as possible. I have given orders to the Minister of War to have you pay the 13,000 f. and generally all your arrears; I will determine your salary in particular. Contact the Minister of Finance to find out if the abolished convent of the Sanità that you are requesting is available, because if it is, I will have it made available to you...".
