Description
MURAT (JOACHIM). [FORTIFICATIONS OF GAÈTE] Letter signed "Joachim Napoleon" as King of Naples, addressed to General Jacques-David-Martin Campredon, Chief of Engineers of his army. Naples, 20 April 1809, "1 1/2 hours in the morning". 3/4 p. in-4. WORKS ORDERED AS PART OF THE DEFENCE OF THE KINGDOM'S COASTS AGAINST THE ENGLISH. "GIVE ORDERS ON THE FIELD SO THAT THE WORK ORDERED AT GAETA BEGINS AND CONTINUES WITH THE GREATEST ACTIVITY, suspend, if necessary, all other work and use all the funds for the works of this place; this measure is rigorous, nothing can delay its execution: you must begin with the work planned at the Porte de Rome and the one that is to cover the place where the trench was opened; also have the site planned at the navy prepared to receive the mortars; finally that the greatest activity be put into the work of this square and that as many people as possible be involved. Also have the sapper battalion reviewed...". On General Campredon, see no. 134 above.
