Description
MURAT (JOACHIM). Letter signed "J Napoleon" to general Jacques-David-Martin Campredon, chief of the Engineers of his army. Naples, 12 December 1810. One p. 1/4 in-4. "I would like you to let me know the presumed and detailed state of your needs for 1811, in order to finish the works ordered. I would like you to instruct the director of engineering in Apulia to make you a special report on the works which would have to be done to clean up the port of BRINDISI and to complete its armament; he must tell you how long it could take to complete by employing 2,000 galley slaves and what the cost would be. I would like this work to be presented to me in a fortnight's time when I am in Brindisi. I HAVE THE PROJECT OF ESTABLISHING IN BRINDISI A GENERAL DEPOT FOR ALL THE BRIGANDS ARRESTED AND WHO ARE CURRENTLY IN THE PRISONS OF MY KINGDOM. I know that there are premises large enough to contain them but which undoubtedly need repairs; as I intend to send all these wretches there immediately, I would like you to send an engineer officer immediately to visit the existing establishments and to report on the expenses and the time it would take to make them habitable; the same officer could be put in charge at the same time of the report I am asking you for on the port of this place; give immediate orders accordingly...". On General Campredon, see no. 134 above.
