Description
MURAT (JOACHIM).
Set of 2 autograph apostilles signed with his initials (s.l.n.d., each 7 words), on 2 pieces addressed to him (s.l.n.d.).
- RECKUM (Friedrich). [Late 1813 or early 1814]. "Sire, it was at the formation of the Guard of the Grand Duchy of Berg that I entered the service of Your Majesty. I followed him to Spain and Naples where the campaigns of Calabria and Italy did not give me the opportunity to show all my devotion to Your Majesty. However, Your Majesty has also deigned to honour me with her kindnesses; as an old lieutenant in the chevau-légers of her Guard, I was far from thinking of leaving Your Majesty's service, when disastrous news calling me back to my family forced me to resign: my two brothers died as officers in the Moscow and Leipzig campaigns, my father, if he is still alive, is suffering from a fatal illness; the ravages of war have not spared our modest fortune. Sire, I needed similar reasons to make me take such a painful decision; I hope it will find its excuse in the kind heart of Your Majesty, so I have come to ask her for her final favours by daring to express to her that I could not take home a more glorious mark of her esteem than the decoration of her Royal Order...".
JOACHIM MURAT INSCRIBED IN HIS HAND: "ACCORDE deux mois d'appointemens et la croix. JM"
- [An officer of his Guard]. S.d. "Your Majesty having decided to confirm in their ranks the captains commanding the Guards of Honour, I have the honour to propose to you the confirmation as from 1st May of Mr Picolelli, cap[itai]ne commanding the company of the Guard of Honour of the province of the Guard of Honour of the province of Naples and Mr Bellelli cap[itai]ne commanding the company of the province of Salerno...".
IN HIS OWN HAND, JOACHIM MURAT WROTE: "APPROUVE. Sent to the Minister of War. JM"
